THRIVE SEATTLE COUNSELING -- 617-395-5806.
Whether your life is in crisis, or you want to improve a good thing, expert counseling help is right here.
Dear Friend,
My name is Dr. Anthony Centore, I am the Founder Thrive Seattle Counseling, and I am glad that you have found this web page. I realize that this is a one way conversation right now, but I want you to know something...this is perhaps the #1 most important piece of guidance I can give you without knowing you more, it is this: No matter what situation you are finding yourself in right now, no matter how desperate things might seem in your life right now, and no matter what has happened in your past--you can experience a better life.
I realize that if you're going through a hard time, what I just told you might not seem possible.
If you are in pain, know that you're not alone in your suffering. In fact, we live in times when many, many people are hurting.
There is no way for me to know what you are experiencing, or why it is today that you are looking for counseling in Seattle, but I do know (and the other counselors at Thrive Seattle Counseling know all too well) that high numbers of persons across the USA are battling with one or more of the following Common Life Problems.
Thrive Seattle Counseling and Psychotherapy
Depression
If you were to take a poll of every person living in the United States, you would find that 1 in 5 people experience a depression in any given year. This "depression" isn't just the winder doldrums (and it's not just "the blues") or feeling down. It is a serious medical and psychological condition. It has been written that Depression will steal life away from the person who suffers from it, as well as the persons who are closest to the depressed person.
In Seattle, with the many dark, grey, and rainy days, depression can reach epidemic proportions.
Do you find that you have any of these indicators of depression? If you do, it is recommended that you seek out the services of a counselor in Seattle who can help you.
Are you bothered by things that didn't used to bother you?
Are you experiencing an increase in physical aches or pains?
Are you having trouble falling asleep; or waking up early, unable to fall back asleep?
Do you feel down most of the day, most days?
Has your appetite or weight recently changed?
Are you having any problems concentrating?
Do simple daily tasks seem to take a large effort to complete?
Does the future seem dark or unpleasant?
Do you feel alone, or have you been withdrawing from others?
Have your hobbies or pastimes become not pleasurable?
Anxiety
Anxiety is a constant fearful state, accompanied by a feeling of unrest, dread, or worry. Anxiety is aroused by a number of factors: External situations (viewing the news, a fast paced lifestyle), Physical well being (lack of sleep, blood sugar), Learning (parents who were highly anxious), and Trauma (situations that caused great pain).
Anxiety symptoms can include:
- Inability to relax
- Tense feelings
- Rapid heartbeat
- Dry mouth
- Increased blood pressure
- Jumpiness or feeling faint
- Excessive perspiring
- Feeling clammy
- Constant anticipation of trouble
- Constant feeling of uneasiness
Self-image, Self-esteem, or Self-worth
Self-esteem refers to an inner sense of value that gives a person resilience to attacks or criticism. Every person has ideas about their self-worth.
Having good self-esteem does NOT mean being proud or having an over-blown "ego".
Low self-esteem can cause: feelings of self-hate, believing that one is unworthy or incompetent, a refusal to get close to people, a belief that one doesn’t deserve strong or supportive relationships, refusal to trust others, and an inability to accept oneself as special or unique.
Your self-esteem is in trouble when you allow others to convince you that you are not valuable or significant.
Poor self-esteem is often the result of prolonged periods of negative feedback in a person’s life. This results in deep wounds and emotional pain.
Relationship Problems (and Loneliness)
We feel more isolated today than ever before.
50% of marriages end in divorce. Communication problems, anger, dependency, jealousy, painful pasts, adultery, and uncertainty about a relationship's future are just a few of the things that can cause serious relationship problems.
Also, today (more than ever) persons are finding that they feel completely alone, even in a large city, such as Seattle, MA.
The problem of isolation gets even worse when we work long hours, have moved several times, or when our social support system has left us.
Do these problems sound familiar to you?
It is no secret that today, people are hurting. We live in the most affluent times in history of the world, but affluent times do not make our problems go away (and many of us still struggle to make ends meet).
Thrive Seattle Counseling believes that too many lives are wasted by the problems of depression, anxiety, self-image, and by broken relationships. Too many of us suffer and hide from our problems, such as addiction, sexual Issues, anger problems, or eating Disorders (to name a few).

Finding a counselor in Seattle, WA
How do you find help when you feel like you have hit bottom?
How do you heal when the pain seems unbearable?
(or perhaps life does not look that dark, but you still have a thought that you want to experience happiness--experience a better life--more often, more clearly, than you are right now).
But wait, I think I am getting ahead of myself....
First, I want to congratulate you on taking the first step to finding counseling. If you are reading this you are SO CLOSE to making change happen in your life. Maybe it has taken you months to get this far--maybe it has taken years...
From this point on, you DO NOT struggle alone.
I, Dr. Anthony Centore, or one of the other excellent Thrive Seattle Counselors, will walk with you from this point on.
How is the Thrive Seattle Counseling Experience Dramatically Better than the rest?
We know this is a strong statement.
Thrive Counselors, every year, help hundreds of individuals, couples, and families from Cambridge and Seattle (We also help clients from around the country who seek out our expertise by telephone or online counseling).
We serve clients who work at Harvard University, MIT, Seattle University, Tufts, McClain Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital--many of our clients are some of the the top thinkers in the country who trust and rely on the care provided by Thrive Seattle Counselors.
At Thrive, we are focused on you, the client. Simply put, from the first time you make a phone call to our office (617-395-5806), to the first time you arrive (The top (8th) floor of a beautiful building in Cambridge), you are always respected and treated with sensitive, professional care.
I (or another Thrive Seattle Psychotherapist) will treat you with the respect and care you deserve. At Thrive, you are a person, not a disorder. Not a combination of symptoms--which is often the status quo with counseling practices these days. --A disorder does not explain or summarize you, or your life experience.
We help our clients live better, more engaging, more successful lives (many of our clients are high-achieving, widely respected professionals). And to do that, we look at helping our clients to heal and grow as both an ART and a SCIENCE.
The Thrive Seattle Counseling philosophy guides everything we do.
- Clients with Depression are not just “cured” of their pain, they experience happiness.
- Clients with Anxiety are not just sedated or calmed down, they experience peace of mind.
- Clients with Relationship problems learn to build and grow meaningful relationships.
- Clients who have Guilt and shame learn to forgive themselves, and others.
- Clients with Addictions don’t just kick the bad habit, they become whole.
Also, Thrive Seattle Therapy only hires the most qualified, best counseling and psychotherapy professionals. Our Counselors:
- Have earned Doctoral (PH.D.) level degrees
- Are authorities in the counseling field and speak nationally to mental health professionals
- Are counseling authors: including having been published in CCT Magazine (a counseling magazine read by 50,000 subscribers), and the prestigious Journal of Mental Health Counseling
- Hold additional certifications and specializations
- Are always perfecting and refining their abilities, skills, and expertise
Our clients tell us that the most helpful offering of Thrive Seattle Psychotherapy is “the strong therapeutic relationship that forms between the counselor and client.”
Thrive Seattle Counselors take a “person-centered” approach to counseling therapy. An underlying philosophy of this approach is that the client (you!) is always growing, and is ultimately in control of his or her life.
Thrive Seattle Counselors focus the therapy process on client strengths. We find that when clients focus on their assets and abilities, they quickly experience a sense of empowerment and freedom, which helps them to improve their lives.
Thrive Seattle Counselors are highly educated and clinically trained to help clients see:
- how thoughts effect their emotions,
- how emotions affect their behaviors,
- how behaviors effect their environment, and
- how environment can affect thoughts.
Finally, a Thrive Seattle therapist can help you see how past experiences are effecting your current mood, expectations, relationships, and life-satisfaction in the here-and-now.
Not the typical Counseling in Seattle
At Thrive Seattle Counseling, you won’t see many clichés. There is no the stereotypical “laying on the couch” (we do have nice couches, but most clients sit), we don't think mothers are the root of all emotional problems, and we try not to overuse the words “and how does that make you feel?”
We use the term "client" not "patient" for those who use our therapy services. And we are definitely do not use the terminology “Provider-User” (which is so prominent with managed care). We pay attention to care and quality, and pay little attention to titles, uniforms, or the showing of degrees and awards in our offices.
At Thrive Seattle Counseling, therapy is a sincere, safe, empowering, intense, and real healing and growth-promoting therapy experience.
